Heather Petkunas holds a Master’s of Nursing and a Master’s of Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix as well as an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Kankakee Community College. Heather is passionate about nursing and giving nurses a voice. She enjoys creating positive change and encouraging nurses at all levels to engage in quality improvement. Heather facilitates multiple shared governance councils. She is the hospital’s Site Coordinator for the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and assists nurses with data analysis and interpretation to improve patient and nursing outcomes. She is responsible for maintaining Riverside Medical Center’s Magnet® Designation status, which only 7% of hospitals nationwide currently have. Heather’s nursing experience includes pediatric and emergency nursing. She is involved in multiple research studies, evidence-based practice projects and quality improvement projects. Heather is blessed to be married for 16 years to Chuck and is the mother to three school-aged children.
